Dengue cases rise in Yucatán, Mexico

Dengue cases are rising in Yucatán, Mexico, with the first week of September marking the highest weekly spike in confirmed cases for 2026. According to reports from the Mexican Secretariat of Health, the region recorded five new confirmed cases during week 35 (September 1–7), including three patients presenting with warning signs such as hemorrhaging, abdominal pain, and vomiting.

In addition to confirmed cases, there has been a significant increase in medical consultations. During the first week of September, an average of 13 people per day sought medical attention for suspected dengue symptoms, up from the August average of approximately 9 to 11 people per day. As of September 7, 2026, Yucatán has accumulated 1,743 probable cases, representing a 5.5% increase from the end of August.

Health authorities note that symptoms typically appear after an incubation period of 4 to 10 days following a mosquito bite. Common indicators include sudden high fever, intense headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, fatigue, nausea, and rashes.
