Dengue fever cases rise in Lebak and Pekanbaru

Health authorities in Indonesia are reporting significant rises in Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases across different regions as weather patterns shift toward the rainy season.

In Lebak, Banten, the local Health Office recorded 920 DHF cases between January and September 2026. While no fatalities have been reported in the district, officials have identified the Rangkasbitung, Kalanganyar, and Mandala health center areas as having the highest concentrations of cases. Residents are being urged to participate in mosquito nest eradication through the ‘3M’ method: draining, covering, and burying potential breeding sites.

In Pekanbaru, Riau, the situation has resulted in three fatalities. The Pekanbaru Health Office reported 745 cases from January to early October 2026, with the Tuah Madani district recording the highest number at 117 cases. Health officials warned that high fever can be mistaken for common illnesses before leading to a dangerous drop in platelet counts. Authorities are emphasizing the importance of routine environmental checks to eliminate standing water where Aedes aegypti mosquitoes breed.
