Dengue fever outbreaks reported in Sri Lanka and Panama

Dengue fever outbreaks are being reported in Sri Lanka and Panama, with health authorities issuing warnings to the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.

In Sri Lanka, the National Dengue Control Unit has recorded 92,011 infections and 68 deaths so far this year. The Western Province is the most heavily affected region, accounting for over 52% of total cases. The Gampaha District has reported the highest number of patients at 19,613. Health officials have designated 96 Medical Officer of Health areas as high-risk zones due to the rapid spread of the virus.

In Panama, the Ministry of Health has recorded 5,318 cumulative cases and 16 deaths through epidemiological week 29. The Metropolitan Region and Colón have reported the highest number of cases. While the incidence rate shows a decreasing trend in recent weeks, officials continue to urge the population to destroy potential breeding sites for the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
