Dengue fever: Ten cases confirmed in Piombino and Baratti

Ten confirmed cases of Dengue fever have been identified in the Val di Cornia area, specifically between Piombino and Baratti in Tuscany. The infected individuals are reported to have visited this specific area during the month of August.

The Tuscany Region and the Asl Toscana Nord Ovest are closely monitoring the epidemiological situation. In response, extraordinary control measures have been activated, including disinfestation treatments and the removal of mosquito larvae in the affected zones.

Health specialists, including Professor Alessandro Bartoloni from the University of Florence, have advised the public to remain calm and avoid alarmism. He noted that Dengue is not transmitted directly from person to person, but exclusively through the bite of infected mosquitoes. The disease typically presents as a flu-like syndrome that resolves within a week, with rare complications.

Authorities emphasize the importance of prevention, particularly regarding the tiger mosquito. Citizens are encouraged to manage private spaces by avoiding water accumulation in flowerpots, buckets, and watering cans, and by refreshing water in pet bowls and inflatable pools every two to three days.
