Deni Kožić, prominent Croatian guitarist and songwriter, passes away

Zagreb-based guitarist and singer-songwriter Deni Kožić has passed away at the age of 61, just days before his 62nd birthday.

Kožić enjoyed a prolific career in the Croatian music scene, performing with several prominent bands including Ritam s ovoga svijeta, Psihomodo Pop, Jura Stublić & Film, and Pips, Chips & Videoclips. He gained wider recognition for his appearance in the music video for Jura Stublić & Film’s song ‘Dobre vibracije’, where he is seen playing guitar atop a building in Ban Jelačić Square.

His musical journey began in the mid-1980s with the band Ritam s ovoga svijeta, which released its debut album in 1986 featuring guest appearances by notable musicians such as Margita Stefanović. In 2014, Kožić transitioned into a solo career as a singer-songwriter, releasing singles such as ‘Nasukan’, ‘Major Tom’, and ‘Eko gorivo’.

Dubravko Ivaniš, frontman of Pips, Chips & Videoclips, paid tribute to Kožić on social media, describing him as a musician through and through.
