Denim trends focus on distressed styles and recycling
The fashion industry is seeing a resurgence of distressed and worn-effect denim. Recent collections from major fashion weeks in New York, Milan, and London have highlighted various interpretations of the 'used' look, ranging from minimal vintage washes to maximalist designs featuring floral inserts, leather trim, and transparent zippers.
Key brands contributing to this trend include Levi’s, which has reintroduced vintage washes for its 501® model, and Diesel, with its low-waisted 1996 line. Polo Ralph Lauren has also introduced aged-effect boy-fit models. High-fashion labels like Acne Studios and Sacai are adding unique elements such as floral fabric openings and leather belts, while Agolde is utilizing recycled cotton to emphasize sustainability.
Beyond new purchases, there is a growing emphasis on upcycling old denim. Due to the durable and versatile nature of the material, old jeans can be repurposed into functional items such as shopping bags, laptop sleeves, phone cases, or even household accessories like coasters and pot holders.
