Denim trends shift toward cleaner silhouettes and bootcut styles for 2026

Denim trends are shifting as the fashion industry moves away from extreme silhouettes toward more controlled shapes for 2026. The era of ultra-wide, super-slouchy, and exaggeratedly voluminous baggy jeans is cooling off in favor of cleaner, more tapered versions that sit between wide-leg and straight-leg styles.

In addition to the evolution of baggy denim, the bootcut jean is emerging as a significant trend. Positioned as a middle ground between the tight skinny jeans of previous years and the oversized wide-leg styles, the bootcut offers a relatively straight line from the hip to the knee before widening subtly toward the ankle. Designed to accommodate footwear like boots, this silhouette provides a classic look that is easier to incorporate into daily wear than more dramatic flare styles.
