Denis Shapovalov reaches Los Cabos final despite injury woes

Canadian tennis player Denis Shapovalov said his body, not his game, has been limiting his performance this season. After a rib fracture at the Queen’s Club Championships and a shoulder injury that forced a Wimbledon retirement, he returned to competition in Los Cabos, Mexico, where he won four straight matches to reach the ATP 250 final.

In the championship match Shapovalov was beaten in straight sets by France’s Arthur Gea, falling one win short of defending the title he captured in 2025. The runner‑up finish lifted him 25 places to world No. 43, but he stressed that regaining full health and finding his game were his primary goals. He arrived in Montreal for the National Bank Open feeling the effects of a demanding week, including late‑night matches and rain‑affected practice sessions, and will face a tough preparation ahead of his first‑round match.
