Denisovans were tall and meat-reliant, new study reveals

New research has provided significant insights into the physical characteristics and diet of the Denisovans, an extinct species of archaic humans. Based on the analysis of bone fragments, including a femur and tibia recovered from the Pcheng-chu Strait near Taiwan, scientists suggest these individuals were notably tall.

Preliminary studies indicate that two specific individuals may have stood approximately 180 and 190 centimeters tall, making them taller than most modern humans and Neanderthals of that era. Chemical analysis of the bone composition further suggests a diet primarily consisting of terrestrial ungulate meat, with a low intake of seafood.

These findings build upon previous knowledge of Denisovan brain size derived from skull and tooth remains, now adding evidence of their robust physical stature.
