Deniz Ersan wins world runner-up in Singapore math olympiad

Deniz Ersan, a student at Bilfen İzmir Fen Lisesi, has achieved second place globally in the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC 2026). Ersan earned the ‘SIMOC 2026 Overall Runner-Up Grade 11’ trophy based on the average performance across three distinct competitions.

During the event, which included approximately 3,000 students from 40 countries, Ersan secured a gold medal and second place in the ‘2026 Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge’, a gold medal in the ‘2026 Math Warriors Challenge’, and a bronze medal in the ‘2026 Math Master Mind Challenge’.

Ersan, who has previously won 30 gold medals and achieved first place in Turkey for the American Math Olympiad (AMO) 2025 and SASMO 2026, plans to pursue studies in medicine or engineering. İzmir Provincial Director of National Education, Dr. Ömer Yahşi, praised the achievement as a source of pride for both İzmir and Turkey.
