VfB Stuttgart appoints Deniz Undav as new club captain

VfB Stuttgart has officially appointed Deniz Undav as the new club captain, replacing Atakan Karazor. The decision was confirmed by head coach Sebastian Hoeneß ahead of the Bundesliga season opener against FC Bayern München.

Hoeneß described the move as a “logical decision,” noting that Undav’s standing within the team and the region makes him a natural leader who represents the club’s recent success and upward trajectory. Undav, a national team striker, has previously served as vice-captain and recently led the team during a DFB-Pokal match when Karazor was on the bench.

Atakan Karazor, who has been captain since 2024, is expected to face increased competition for his starting position following the arrival of new signing Grischa Prömel. Hoeneß praised Karazor as a “very worthy VfB captain” and acknowledged his role in the club’s recent achievements, including their DFB-Pokal victory.
