Denizli jujube harvest begins in Çivril district

The jujube harvest, commonly referred to as the ‘immortality fruit,’ is set to begin in the Gümüşsu neighborhood of the Çivril district in Denizli. The fruit, which has Far Eastern origins and is used in traditional Chinese medicine, is being cultivated through both centuries-old trees and modern orchards.

Local producer Hasan Bulut manages a garden containing nearly 700 trees, including 300-year-old trees inherited from his grandfather. Through grafting and long-term cultivation efforts, Bulut has increased the variety of jujube in his garden to approximately 17 to 20 different types.

Due to favorable rainfall this year, an annual yield of approximately 7 to 8 tons is expected. The fruit is valued for its low maintenance and high profitability, as it requires no agricultural pesticides. The harvest is expected to start in early September and continue until the first week of November. The produce is consumed fresh, dried, or as tea, and is sold to both domestic and international markets.
