Deník launches civic project to identify neglected local areas

Deník has launched a large-scale civic project titled ‘Starosto, vyřeš to!’ (Mayor, solve it!) across 70 of its regional websites in the Czech Republic. The initiative aims to conduct a ‘civic inventory’ by inviting readers to identify and document neglected or problematic locations in their municipalities, such as dilapidated transit stops, overgrown central areas, or unsafe public spaces.

The project is timed to coincide with upcoming municipal elections. The goal is to present these identified ‘shameful’ locations to mayoral and municipal council candidates, encouraging them to prioritize these issues and transform them into livable spaces. The process involves citizens submitting photos and stories, after which the most prominent issues will be selected for further discussion and potential solutions.
