Denmark adapts infrastructure to combat coastal erosion

At Grenen, the northernmost tip of Jutland in Denmark, the landscape is in constant motion. The sandy spit, where the Baltic Sea and the North Sea meet, shifts by approximately 10 meters annually due to currents, waves, and wind.

Rather than attempting to halt coastal erosion with concrete barriers, Denmark has adopted a strategy of adaptation. In areas like the Møns Klint chalk cliffs, which are gradually disappearing into the sea, authorities choose to move lighthouses and redesign walking paths to allow the coastline to change naturally while ensuring tourist safety.
