Denmark awards compensation to nine children injured by COVID‑19 vaccine

Nine Danish children have been granted compensation for serious injuries linked to a COVID‑19 vaccine, receiving a total of approximately 3.18 million kroner from the Patient Compensation Board (Patienterstatningen). The awarded cases involve severe and rare side‑effects such as chronic urticaria, heart‑muscle inflammation, central‑nervous‑system inflammation and MOG disease.

Patienterstatningen reported 66 compensation claims from children, of which most have been rejected; 66 cases involve children aged 12‑17 and 12 cases involve children aged 5‑11. The nine successful claims cover seven adolescents (12‑17) and two younger children. Compensation is granted only for injuries that exceed what a person “should reasonably be expected to tolerate,” excluding mild or transient effects. The Danish Health Authority (Sundhedsstyrelsen) had recommended COVID‑19 vaccination for children in 2021, but now limits the vaccine to seniors and high‑risk groups.
