Denmark bad debtor register shows rise in young participants

The number of bad debtors registered in the RKI register has continued a downward trend that began in 2014. According to a semi-annual report from Experian, the number of registered individuals fell by two percent since the start of the year, bringing the total to 161,577 people. This represents approximately 3.3 percent of the adult Danish population.

Despite the overall decline, which Experian director Bo Rasmussen attributes to high employment levels, there is growing concern regarding younger demographics. The proportion of individuals aged 18 to 20 in the register has risen from 0.89 percent in January 2025 to 1.04 percent currently. Experts warn that being listed in the RKI can make it significantly more difficult for young people to secure loans for essential purchases such as vehicles or housing.
