Denmark begins major upgrade of military barracks

A major project to upgrade Danish military housing has reached a milestone with the topping-out ceremony for the first new building at Holstebro Kaserne. The initiative involves constructing 31 new accommodation buildings across 11 barracks in Denmark to provide modern facilities for soldiers and conscripts.

The project is being financed by PensionDanmark in collaboration with construction firm MT Højgaard. This upgrade is a response to severe conditions in existing barracks, such as those at Dragonkasernen, where widespread mold issues led the defense chief to declare old buildings unsuitable for habitation.

To address immediate needs, temporary barracks are being utilized while permanent structures are completed. The cost for temporary barracks nationwide is estimated between 8 and 12 billion DKK. Defense Minister Jeppe Bruus attended the ceremony, marking the first visible progress in this large-scale effort to strengthen the Danish Defense infrastructure.
