Denmark burglary rates rise nationally amid regional fluctuations

New data from Statistics Denmark and Bo Trygt reveal diverging trends in residential burglary rates across various Danish municipalities. Nationally, burglaries in private homes rose by 16 percent in the third quarter of 2026, with 4,261 reported incidents compared to 590 more than the same period in 2025.

In the North Jutland Region, reported burglaries increased by 26 percent in the third quarter, with 725 cases reported in the first nine months of the year compared to 601 during the same period last year. Within the region, Vesthimmerland Municipality saw a 79 percent increase, rising from 24 to 43 reported burglaries. Mariagerfjord Municipality also experienced a 27 percent increase.

Conversely, some areas reported significant declines. Rebild Municipality saw a 42 percent drop in burglaries, falling from 33 to 19. Morsø Municipality reported a 57 percent decrease in the third quarter, with only three burglaries recorded.

As the darker months approach, Bo Trygt advises homeowners to increase vigilance, recommending the use of outdoor lighting, high-quality locks, and active neighborhood watch practices to deter thieves.
