Denmark captain Højbjerg apologizes for criticizing coach and teammate

Denmark captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has issued an apology following controversial remarks directed at coach Brian Riemer and teammate Morten Hjulmand. After a 2-3 Nations League defeat against Norway, Højbjerg criticized the team's midfield selection, stating that the coach should have chosen between players with similar profiles rather than playing both. He described the tactical setup as “a bit embarrassing” and argued that team interests should supersede individual ones.

Højbjerg later retracted his harsh criticism on social media, admitting, “I made a mistake. I am a human being... when I am disappointed by a defeat... emotions run high and I say things without thinking.”

While former players and coaches expressed concern over potential friction within the squad, Brian Riemer stated that the matter has been resolved through a conversation and that the apology has been accepted.
