Denmark celebrates National Volunteer Day and opens award nominations

Denmark is celebrating National Volunteer Day, highlighting the contributions of individuals in various community roles, such as sports coaches, mentors, and local charity workers. In Aarhus Municipality, the Health and Care department is hosting a week of celebrations, including films and brunch, to honor volunteers who support the elderly through activities like cycling trips and reading aloud.

Additionally, nominations are now open for the ‘Volunteer of the Year 2026’ award. Organized by Danmarks Idrætsforbund in partnership with AL Sydbank, the award recognizes individuals making extraordinary efforts within their local sports clubs. The prize includes 75,000 DKK, with 25,000 DKK going to the winner personally and 50,000 DKK awarded to the recipient's sports association. The nomination period runs from September 24 to October 18.
