Denmark citizen proposal to relocate wolves abroad gains 12,000 signatures
A Danish citizen initiative seeks to capture all wolves in Denmark and transport them to other European countries with larger natural areas, such as national parks in Germany. The proposal, submitted by pensioner Hans‑Jørgen Bøgfeldt of Frederikssund, argues that the country’s high population density and intensive land use make it unsuitable for free‑roaming wolves. Supporters cite incidents of wolves attacking livestock and alleged attacks on people, while experts note wolves are generally shy and avoid humans.
The petition requires 50,000 signatures within six months to be considered by the Folketing. It has already collected nearly 12,000 signatures, including backing from local resident Susanne Bundgaard Vestergaard, who says the presence of wolves near her home makes dog walks unsafe. If the threshold is met, the proposal will be debated in parliament.
