Denmark consumer groups complain over illegal e-bike marketing
Consumer advocacy groups in Denmark, including Rådet for Sikker Trafik and Forbrugerrådet Tænk, have filed complaints with the Consumer Ombudsman regarding the marketing of electric bicycles. The groups allege that several retailers are misleading consumers by selling e-bikes that exceed legal speed limits.
In a related incident, police in South Zealand and Lolland-Falster confiscated an electric bicycle from a 22-year-old man. The vehicle was found to be capable of speeds significantly higher than permitted, classifying it as a moped rather than a bicycle. The rider faced charges for violating traffic laws, including operating an unregistered vehicle without liability insurance.
