Denmark debates legality of motorcycle lane splitting

A debate has emerged in Denmark regarding the legality of lane splitting, the practice of motorcycles riding between rows of stopped or slow-moving vehicles. Currently, Danish traffic law requires overtaking to occur by moving to the left of the leftmost lane, provided there is sufficient space and solid lines are not crossed. Violating these rules can result in fines and penalty points on a driver's license.

The MCTC, a motorcycle association with nearly 30,000 members, is advocating for a change in the law and has proposed a time-limited trial phase with specific regulations. However, the proposal faces significant opposition from the FDM, Denmark's largest motorists' organization, which warns that allowing lane splitting could lead to an increase in accidents and fatalities.
