Denmark debates youth mental health and rising diagnoses

Discussions regarding the rise in mental health diagnoses among Danish youth are highlighting the distinction between increased prevalence and changes in diagnostic criteria. For instance, changes to ADHD diagnostic criteria in 2013, such as raising the age of symptom onset and lowering the required number of symptoms for adults, have made it easier to receive a diagnosis.

In Hjørring, a public debate hosted by AOF Hjørring and the Social Democratic party will address youth well-being, loneliness, and the pressures of modern life. The event aims to explore local solutions for supporting vulnerable young people and will feature perspectives from mental health volunteers, politicians, and social advocacy leaders.
