Denmark dental AI self‑diagnosis raises cost concerns
A new trend sees a growing share of Danes turning to the internet and artificial‑intelligence tools such as Google or ChatGPT for advice on dental pain instead of visiting a dentist. The survey by data firm Bilendi for Godt Smil Tandlægerne shows 14.6 % of respondents overall, and 26.6 % of those aged 16‑34, rely on digital self‑diagnosis. Dentist Sevgi Gudek warns that AI cannot perform clinical examinations, radiographs, or detect early gum disease, and that incorrect online advice can turn a simple issue like a fluoride rinse into expensive root‑canal treatment. While she sees limited potential for AI to calm anxious patients by explaining procedures, the overall risk is that patients defer professional care, leading to higher pain and financial burdens.
