Denmark drivers warned of winter tire safety and fines

Drivers in Denmark are being warned to switch to winter tires as temperatures drop. An investigation by GF Forsikring reveals that 43 percent of drivers have forgotten to change their tires within the last five years. Using summer tires in winter conditions can compromise road safety due to reduced grip in cold, rainy, or slushy weather.

In addition to safety risks, motorists face significant financial penalties. It is illegal to drive with tires that are ‘obviously unsuitable’ for the weather conditions, and drivers risk a fine of 4,000 kroner. FDM recommends switching to winter tires when temperatures fall below seven degrees Celsius.

While recent data shows an improvement—with only four percent of cars recorded using summer tires in January—experts suggest scheduling tire changes with workshops in advance to avoid forgetting due to daily distractions.
