Denmark eases regulations for shooting wolves threatening livestock

New regulations in Denmark have eased the rules regarding the shooting of wolves deemed to be a threat to livestock. As of September 1, 2026, individuals with a hunting license no longer require prior official permission to shoot a wolf in two specific scenarios.

Permission is no longer mandatory if a wolf breaches a wolf-proof fence equipped with extra electrified wires, or if the animal is shot to avert an immediate attack on livestock. However, individuals must attempt to scare the wolf away with a warning shot before shooting. Authorities must be notified following any such incident.
