Denmark employment growth driven by seniors and non-Western immigrants
A new analysis from the Labor Movement's Economic Council (AE), based on data from Statistics Denmark, reveals that seniors and non-Western immigrants have driven 74 percent of the employment growth in Denmark since 2019.
Since the first quarter of 2019, employment has increased by approximately 277,000 people. Of this growth, 108,000 are individuals aged 60 and older of Danish origin, while nearly 93,000 are non-Western immigrants. The analysis notes that employee employment reached a historic high of 3,082,000 people in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Sofie Holme Andersen, chief economist at AE, stated that recent economic upturns have increased the demand for labor, benefiting groups that are typically in more vulnerable positions in the labor market. She noted that the high economic pressure has allowed these groups to enter a market where they previously faced more competition.
