Denmark establishes presence as recognized wine-growing region

Denmark has established itself as an official, EU-recognized wine-growing region since 2000. Despite low recognition in some neighboring markets, the country hosts approximately 1,100 wineries and producers, including over 100 commercial operations.

Wine production is divided into four primary regions: Jutland, Funen, Zealand, and Bornholm. Danish wines are increasingly recognized as a specialty on the international stage, with many estates producing award-winning varieties.

Notable producers include Skærsøgaard Vin, the country’s first licensed winery, and Vester Vedsted Vingård, a family-run operation that includes a distillery and restaurant. On the island of Årø, Årø Vingård produces both wine and cider.
