Denmark expands F-35 fleet to 43 aircraft by 2030

Denmark is expanding its F-35A Lightning II fleet to a total of 43 aircraft by 2030. Following a contract signed in April, the Royal Danish Air Force will add 16 additional stealth fighters to its original order of 27 aircraft, which are intended to replace the existing F-16 fleet.

The delivery of these additional jets will occur in three production batches: eight from lot 20, six from lot 21, and two from lot 22. This expansion follows a broader trend among European nations seeking to bolster aerial capabilities due to increasing operational requirements.

Despite the expansion, the program faces financial challenges, as lifecycle costs for the initial order have exceeded original forecasts by nearly 2 billion euros. Denmark's integration into the program is supported by its long-standing role as an industrial partner, involving local companies in the manufacturing of components.
