Denmark expands healthcare access through digital tools and specialist placement

Denmark is implementing new healthcare initiatives to improve medical access and diagnostic efficiency. In the upcoming Region Østdanmark, a unified digital solution will be launched by spring 2027. This system, currently used in Region Hovedstaden, will allow doctors to share CT scans and X-rays across different hospitals. The goal is to facilitate remote diagnoses for over 5,000 daily examinations, including cancer, strokes, and trauma, while helping understaffed departments by allowing specialists to work across multiple locations.

Separately, Region Syddanmark has announced a budget agreement for 2027 allocating nearly 30 million kroner to bring more specialists to outlying areas. The plan includes creating new medical practices in neurology, dermatology, and plastic surgery in regions such as South West Jutland and Sønderjylland. This initiative aims to reduce geographic disparities in treatment availability and ensure better access to specialized care outside of major cities.
