Denmark expands tax deduction for appliance repairs

Since 2025, Danish citizens can utilize a service tax deduction to offset the labor costs of repairing household appliances, such as washing machines and refrigerators. This initiative is an extension of existing deductions that cover services like cleaning, window washing, and gardening.

The tax value of the deduction is approximately 26 percent. For example, a 2,000 DKK repair cost could result in a tax saving of roughly 520 DKK. Susanne Ulrich, a head of office at the Danish Energy Agency, stated that the measure aims to extend the lifespan of appliances to save resources, as manufacturing new units requires significant raw materials and energy.

The Danish Energy Agency is running a campaign titled ‘Give your appliances a chance’ between weeks 45 and 47 to encourage citizens to explore repair options before purchasing new products.
