Denmark experiences rising demand for senior co-housing

The demand for senior co-housing in Denmark is significantly outstripping supply. According to Realdania, there are currently approximately 12,000 homes across 442 senior co-housing communities in the country, but estimates suggest that up to 80,000 people are interested in this living model.

Project manager Stig Hessellund noted that while the supply of these communities has tripled over the last decade, a large gap remains. Proponents, including Holbæk Mayor Christina Krzyrosiak Hansen, suggest that moving seniors into more compact, age-friendly housing can facilitate a rotation in the housing market, allowing families to move into larger detached villas and houses.
