Denmark: Experts Warn Against Fully Closing Roller Blinds During Heatwaves

Experts caution that closing roller blinds (rulleskodder) tightly against windows during hot weather can trap air between the glass and the blind, causing heat to be pressed back into the home. The resulting temperature rise can strain both the glass and the blind, while also increasing indoor heat and UV exposure. To prevent this, ventilation openings in the blind should remain open, allowing free airflow, and a small gap should be left between the blind’s bottom and the window sill. Modern blinds often incorporate small vents to avoid heat buildup. Proper use of roller blinds can improve indoor comfort and reduce the need for air‑conditioning on scorching summer days.
