Denmark Faces 30°C Heat Wave as Study Finds One‑Third Skip Adequate Sunscreen

The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) forecasts a brief spell of summer heat, with temperatures reaching up to 30 °C on the weekend in parts of the country. Aarhus is expected to see 29‑30 °C with sunshine, while Copenhagen will experience milder highs of 22‑24 °C.

At the same time, a YouGov survey commissioned by insurance group Gjensidige reveals that more than one‑third of Danes apply sunscreen with a lower protection factor than the recommended SPF 30, and one‑fifth use none at all. Health officials warn that insufficient protection increases the risk of both common skin cancers and malignant melanoma. "Many think SPF 15 or 20 is enough in Denmark, where UV is perceived as milder, but repeated sunburn is the biggest cause of skin cancer," said Mette Glad, head of health at Gjensidige.
