Denmark faces challenges in green investment and energy security

A new report from the Brundtland Think Tank suggests that the Danish state should assume more risk to facilitate green investments in the utility sector. Analysts argue that utility companies face a dilemma between driving the green transition—through technologies like CO2 capture, electrification, and energy storage—and maintaining economic responsibility to consumers. Without state intervention, companies may struggle to balance long-term climate goals with the need to keep prices low and avoid risky investments that fall on taxpayers.

Simultaneously, a YouGov survey conducted for the business organization TEKNIQ reveals significant public concern regarding the security of Denmark's critical infrastructure. Approximately 44 percent of Danes expressed worry about potential attacks or sabotage against vital systems. The survey indicates that energy supply is the top priority for citizens seeking better protection, ranking higher than concerns regarding food supply, the internet, or military installations. TEKNIQ emphasizes the need for increased investment in technical solutions and professional preparedness to ensure resilience against both digital and physical threats.
