Denmark's Environment Minister Says No Quick Fix for Vilsund Blue Mussel Sorting Dispute

Environment Minister Maria Reumert Gjerding told the LimfjordUpdate that a rapid solution to the mussel‑catch sorting problem at Vilsund Blue in Nykøbing is not forthcoming. The dispute, which has already led to about 50 workers being sent home, stems from EU fishing regulations that require either strict compliance with existing rules or a special exemption approved by the European Commission. A previous government attempt to secure such an exemption failed, leaving the current rules unchanged. Gjerding said the ministry remains in close dialogue with the EU Commission to find a solution that meets EU standards, emphasizing the case’s importance for the sector.
