Denmark faces split weekend weather and escalating oak moth health concerns

The Danish Meteorological Institute predicts a stark contrast in weather across the country on Saturday. Northern and eastern regions are expected to enjoy sunny, dry conditions with temperatures reaching up to 22 °C, while the southern area, particularly Sønderjylland, will see cloud cover, rain and temperatures as low as 17 °C. Winds, which were strong on Friday, will ease on Saturday but are forecast to return on Sunday with additional rain.

At the same time, authorities in Odense and Kerteminde are dealing with a growing outbreak of the oak processionary moth. The larvae, which can carry up to 60,000 irritating hairs, are not being eradicated but managed. Municipal plans focus on limiting spread, especially around schools and daycare centers, using measures such as vacuuming larvae from tree trunks and heat treatment. Officials stress that the recent heat wave and windy conditions worsen the situation, but there are no current plans to fell the affected oak trees.
