Danish Parliament to Hold Emergency Debate on Ceuta Migrant Flows After Liberal Alliance Backing

The Liberal Alliance (LA) announced support from 72 members of parliament, enabling an emergency debate on the surge of migrants arriving at the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. The motion, championed by DF lawmaker Morten Messerschmidt, calls for the Danish government to press for Spain’s suspension from the Schengen border‑free area. Support for the motion also comes from Venstre, Denmark Democrats and the Conservatives, reaching the required two‑fifths threshold, while the Social Democrats oppose it.

Messerschmidt says the debate will pressure the government to act on proposals by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who has urged EU leaders to consider suspending Spain from Schengen. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has previously called on EU member states to address external‑border challenges, and the EU interior ministers are scheduled to meet to discuss the issue.
