Denmark GDP growth slows as pharmaceutical sector cools
New data from Danmarks Statistik indicates a slowdown in Denmark's economic growth. In the second quarter of 2026, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose by 0.3 percent when adjusted for price developments and seasonal variations, a significant decrease from the 1.5 percent growth recorded in the first quarter of 2026.
This deceleration is partly attributed to a decline in the pharmaceutical industry, a sector that has historically driven a substantial portion of Denmark's economic growth. Thomas Senderovitz, CEO of the Danish Lif (Lægemiddelindustriforeningen), noted that while the sector remains a foundation for the economy, the current signs of slowing growth serve as a reminder of the intense global competition and the economy's sensitivity to fluctuations in key sectors.
