Denmark hydrogen strategy faces scientific scrutiny

Researchers are questioning the core logic of Denmark's hydrogen strategy. While the 2021 plan aimed to establish 4-6 gigawatts of green hydrogen production by 2030, many projects have been delayed or abandoned.

The strategy was based on the premise that an abundance of cheap electricity from wind and solar would allow hydrogen plants to increase production, thereby lowering fuel costs and making renewable investments more attractive. However, researchers are now examining a paradox where an excess of cheap electricity may actually make green hydrogen more expensive.
