Denmark implements land conversion for climate and nature protection

In Denmark, local initiatives are focusing on multi-purpose land use to address climate adaptation, biodiversity, and groundwater protection. In Solrød, a 140-hectare project at Solrød Bæk aims to create wetlands and basins capable of holding over 60,000 cubic meters of water. This project is designed to protect drinking water and mitigate flooding risks for nearby towns like Havdrup.

The project has gained national attention, prompting a visit from the Minister for Nature and Animal Welfare, Christian Rabjerg Madsen, and the Parliament's Environment and Food Committee. The initiative aligns with the ‘Green Tripartite’ agreement, which seeks to restore forests and fjords through land conversion.

Similarly, in the Aarhus region, Sparekassen Kronjylland has acquired 117 hectares of agricultural land near Tranbjerg to convert into forest and nature areas. This acquisition supports Aarhus Municipality’s goal to expand its forest and nature coverage to 12,000 hectares by 2030, specifically targeting the protection of drinking water sources and enhancing local biodiversity.
