Denmark issues over 250,000 speeding fines in 50 km/h zones

In 2025, more than 250,000 speeding fines were issued to motorists in Denmark for exceeding the 50 km/h speed limit. Data provided by the National Police to Gjensidige indicates that approximately 711 fines were issued every day in these zones.

Traffic safety experts, including the Road Safety Council (Rådet for Sikker Trafik), have expressed concern regarding this trend. Jakob Bøving Arendt, CEO of the Council, noted that reducing speed from 60 to 50 km/h can halve the risk of death or serious injury.

Regional data shows significant activity in certain areas. The North Zealand police district recorded 39,505 fines, representing a 56 percent increase from the previous year. In Funen, the number of fines rose from 26,116 in 2024 to 32,888 in 2025.
