EjendomDanmark warns travelers of bedbug risk on holiday

The Danish property association EjendomDanmark cautions holidaymakers that bedbugs (væggelus) can hide in suitcases, clothing and other luggage and spread to rental apartments. The organisation’s legal director, Simone Ørum Holmbo, advises that travelers should keep their luggage on a stand or away from the bed, store clothing in sealed bags, and wash garments at a minimum of 60 °C (or freeze them for two days) after returning home. She adds that renters should notify their landlord immediately if they discover bedbugs, as swift action helps contain the infestation.

Four practical steps are recommended: 1. Place the suitcase on a stand or away from sleeping areas. 2. Use sealed bags for clothing. 3. Wash or freeze laundry promptly. 4. Look for signs such as small black spots on mattresses or bed frames. Prompt reporting and treatment can prevent costly and widespread pest problems in multi‑unit buildings.
