Vejdirektoratet warns of summer traffic congestion on Danish highways
The Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) issued guidance for motorists ahead of the summer holiday period, noting that traffic is expected to surge on weekends, especially Saturdays, as travelers move from the capital region toward Funen, Jutland and south to Germany. The first major departure weekend starts on 26 June, with further peaks anticipated between weeks 27‑31 and again on the weekend of 8‑9 August as holidaymakers return.
Drivers are advised to avoid peak morning‑to‑afternoon hours, especially on the E45 corridor where extensive roadworks between Vejle‑Aarhus and around Kolding cause speed reductions and lane closures. The agency recommends using real‑time traffic information services and planning trips outside the busiest periods to minimise delays.
