Denmark Lotto winner receives 8 million DKK tax-free

A recent Lotto drawing resulted in a jackpot winner from North Jutland receiving 8 million DKK, along with two additional millionaires from Fredericia and Copenhagen. These winnings are tax-free under Danish law.

According to Skattestyrelsen, winnings from games covered by the Danish Gambling Act, such as Lotto, Eurojackpot, and land-based casinos with Danish licenses, are tax-exempt. However, winnings from unauthorized online casinos or providers outside the EU and EØS are generally taxable as personal income. For games within the EU/EØS, winnings are tax-free if the game is equivalent to a Danish-approved game and subject to public authority control. Players must be able to document this status themselves.
