Denmark marks International Defibrillator Day with improved response times

On International Defibrillator Day, new data reveals that response times for volunteer 'heart runners' in Denmark have reached record levels. Currently, 61,291 registered volunteers are available to assist during cardiac arrests in their neighborhoods, with an average arrival time of 3 minutes and 24 seconds.

Statistics show that in 77 percent of cases, a volunteer arrives within five minutes. Medical experts emphasize the importance of these volunteers and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), noting that only 14 percent of people who suffer a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting survive without immediate intervention.

Public health initiatives, such as those led by Nykøbing Falster Hospital, are focusing on training citizens in CPR and AED usage to bridge the critical five-to-ten-minute gap before emergency services arrive.
