Denmark Minister announces digital recovery plan for IT security
Denmark's Minister for Civil Protection and Emergency Management, Lisbeth Bech-Nielsen, has announced a digital recovery plan to address vulnerabilities in the nation's IT infrastructure. The minister stated that critical areas of Denmark's digital systems are currently running on "old systems on a sea of critical areas."
The announcement follows recent security incidents, including a hack that compromised the names, addresses, and CPR numbers of approximately 8.8 million people, as well as digital attacks on the Land Registry and the main contractor for the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link.
Concerns regarding state IT preparedness are not new. Previous reports from the National Audit Office in 2022 and 2023 found that several critical IT systems lacked satisfactory preparedness for major outages or data losses.
