Denmark municipalities reach record 1.4 billion kroner in parking revenue
Danish municipalities reached a record high in parking-related revenue in 2025, totaling nearly 1.4 billion kroner. According to a report by FDM, this amount includes approximately 1 billion kroner from paid parking and resident licenses, while 328 million kroner was generated specifically from parking fines.
Data shows significant variation in how different municipalities manage parking control. While some areas see complaint rates exceeding 10 percent of all fines issued, Holbæk Municipality recorded the lowest complaint rate in the country at just 0.3 percent. FDM Managing Director Stina Glavind noted that Holbæk treats parking control as a service to improve traffic flow rather than a primary revenue source.
In response to growing confusion and dissatisfaction regarding parking rules and signage, Member of Parliament Thomas Monberg has moved to bring a citizen proposal to Christiansborg. The proposal, which gained 50,000 signatures, seeks clearer regulations for private parking companies to prevent the decline of city centers.
