Denmark Opens Applications for New Land-Based Casino Licenses

The Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) has launched a licensing round for land‑based casinos, allowing permits of up to ten years. Interested operators must submit complete applications and supporting documents by 3 November 2026. Denmark currently holds seven active casino licences in Copenhagen South, Copenhagen West, Helsingør, Odense, Vejle, Aarhus and Aalborg.

Each proposal will be examined by the relevant municipality, the local chief of police, the Ministry of Taxation, the Ministry of Business and, where applicable, the Danish Maritime Authority. The regulator will assess financial solidity, gambling‑industry experience, ownership structure and the planned casino’s location, size, layout and public‑order impact. No specific number of new licences has been announced, and a timetable for decisions after the deadline has not been provided.
